Welcome to one of my favorite posts of the year! At least once each trip around the sun, I write up an article about the most expensive houses in Louisville, Kentucky, and publish it for all to see.
How Do We Choose?
I begin by collecting every property that sold for $1,000,000 (or more) since the start of the year. The best of the best! But only homes located in Louisville, or the surrounding counties of Oldham, Shelby, Spencer, and Bullitt.
This will contain the most expensive houses in Louisville that traded hands during the course of the year. Therefore, more expensive houses are out there but weren’t sold in the past 12 months.
In case you were wondering, this includes condos and farms, as well as, single-family homes. This year I removed one of the top five most expensive simply because even though the house was modest but it was on 607 acres! I love land as much as the next guy but we are here to see the over-the-top house pics. If you have a large home and need it cleaned, Super Cleaning is a great local company.
Most Expensive Houses in Louisville
In 2020, our grand total is 77. That’s more than any year since I’ve been creating this piece. There might even be one or two more that could make it onto the list by closing before the end of December.
Given that Louisville home sales have been up, I guess I shouldn’t be surprised. But given everything else 2020 has hit us with, I actually am.

These results are more in line with 2018 than last year, which seems to be the outlier. It’s also interesting to note that while the current Days on Market for all homes sold in Jefferson County was just 31 (wow!) the number for our most expensive houses in Louisville was higher than in recent years at 205.
The sizes of these homes also were the largest in our five-year polling.

Ok, let’s check out these incredible houses!
#5 – 14427 River Glades Lane
This beauty was built in 2018 with a modern flair that’s a bit rare here in Louisville. Just shy of 9,000 finished square feet and nestled on a 2-acre lot, the interior design is spot on. You’ll definitely want to check out the photos… this home looks like something out of a magazine! It’s clear the builder spared no expense when creating this gem. This home sold for $2.52 million in September to come in at #5 on our rankings. [Listing photos]
#4 – 12 Overbrook Road
Last year one of our top five was located in Mockingbird Valley and we have another one this year! Here we see the back of this charming 6,295 total finished square feet property reflected in a lovely pond. This beautiful Louisville home sold for $2.63 million in June. #3 – 2703 Poplar Hill Court
This home is located on a private 2.4 acres with vast views of the Ohio River just west of Glenview. This almost 9,000 square foot estate home is grand but it’s also cozy. A bit of a throwback to when craftsman was king. I wish there were more photos online but you owe it to yourself to see the views off the back patio. It sold for $2.7 million in February to come in at number three on our list. [Listing photos]
#2 – 2800 Mayo Lane
Located in Prospect, this incredible home is grand, to say the least. It’s also gigantic! But it’s not just its size that’s impressive, you’ll want to check out the photos of the abundance of luxury finishes found in this house. Located near the Hillcrest neighborhood, it’s also situated on almost 10 acres of secluded, beautiful land. Wow! This property sold for $3.95 million in March. [Listing photos]
#1 – 35 Poplar Hill Road
A home on Poplar Hill Court came in at #3. Now we have Poplar Hill Road. They are less than a couple thousand feet from one another. What are the odds?
Finding vacant land in Jefferson County can be a challenge. Much less, finding it in the traditional home of luxury—Indian Hills. After being listed for $10 million, this property sold for $6.5 million in October. The house situated on the land is modern mixed with a traditional one built in 1970. Located just north of Locust Grove inside the Watterson Expressway, it will be interesting to see if the new owners build a new housing development in this location or sell it to a developer who will.
