Homearama Is Hot! Hot! Hot!

It’s not just the weather that’s raising the temperature at Norton Commons. Design trends are on fire!

Homearama is in full swing and we wanted to bring the latest in Louisville interior design.

In addition to the requisite fleur de lys everywhere (my favorite of which was a bathroom wall stencil), we couldn’t help but notice that wallpaper is making a big comeback. Look for animals motifs on that wallpaper, as well as on bedding, pillows and art/accessories. Lions and monkeys and cows, oh my! Birds, butterflies and ladybugs are favorites too.

These prints tie in perfectly with the year’s color trends. Red and yellow are strong, along with chocolates and other neutrals, and teal and sage lend more color.

Speaking of animals, check out this fun pet shower. Would your pet love getting this grand treatment too?

In fabric, I’m loving the ikat print trend, which I spotted in at least 5 houses! Animal prints, as in zebra and tiger stripes and leopard spots, are popular as well.

For bedrooms, upholstered headboards ruled, usually seen with a Hollywood Regency look with mirrored side tables. The perfect combination of glamour and comfort!

Fun and fantastic tassels on a rich fabric highlight two large bedroom windows with a playful mirror in center.

Another can’t miss was wrought iron – for stair rails, chandeliers, candelabras, mirrors, clocks, and plant stands. Even a gorgeous pergola, if you’re looking for outdoor living ideas, this is the place to be. I could have lingered on one particular patio forever, even in the July heat!

For my favorite subject, flooring, the word of the day is hardwood! In every color and texture imaginable, highlighted by cozy and stylish area rugs. Ceramic tiles lend subtle pattern and richness to bathrooms. My prediction for the next big thing in flooring is textured carpet in rich tans and taupes, still neutral, but adds pattern and style without being too busy.

One of the most impressive pieces in all of Homearama was this three-dimensional ceiling, hand-crafted with merely wood, drywall and drywall mud. Outstanding!

There’s still time to visit Homerama through July 31. And don’t forget – wear comfy shoes, hydrate, and remember where you parked!
